Akira Mercer, a fifteen-year-old contract investigator from Lower Nexus, discovered nine citizens who had been dead for years but were still generating carefully timed civic activity. Every eleven days, small trusted events reset their records before Nexus City’s fourteen-day continuity review could examine them more closely.
All nine events were approved through the same hidden authority: NCI-BRIDGE/7.
When Akira tried to inspect its certificate, the authority traced his network route back toward him. Soon afterward, he discovered that the same Bridge Seven certificate had also authorized his mandatory NICP integration—and that Nexus City still listed both of his missing parents as Active / Unavailable.
Akira proceeded with the procedure and received a rare Legacy Stability Unit instead of a standard implant. During synchronization, a hidden diagnostic screen identified him as an authorized candidate, preserved his primary identity continuity, and revealed a sealed secondary channel. Dr. Mara Venn concealed the message before her assistant noticed it.
Akira is now recognized as an independent citizen, but he still does not know who controls the dead identities, why his implant was prepared for him, what Bridge Seven truly wants, or how much Dr. Venn knows.
Current status: NICP complete. NSAN and academy placement still ahead. Project EXOVA launches in approximately twenty-six days.
